Having decided to take van to Lydden and getting partway there when steering wheel started juddering like mad and smoke started coming from front left wheel. Decided it was best to head home to safety.

What other symptoms, Leila? Did it pull to one side while driving or braking? Any rumbles going around either left or right corners?

Thats poo leila...the bright side is that the wheel stayed on and didn't decide to 'overtake' you....

On another note...keeping the theme of this thread...

effin workshops that just tighten bolts and nuts by 'feel'....bleeding use a torque wrench you morons....you more than not over effin tighten them

Thanks Kitten. Probably is the wheel bearing, so annoyed though coz had picnic made and all my race gear in the back ready to try and cadge a passenger ride.
No, but it had been squeaking for a while. And before it got bad the van felt as if it was struggling to pull away.
Fingers crossed it'll be a quick (and inexpensive) fix, ready to Lydden trackday at the end of the month!!

Sounds bearing or siezed caliper'y. Caliper is cheaper to fix, providing you have fused everything together :p

Why is there a bleeding snowstorm happening?!

I have 1 piece of welding to do and I can put the car back on 4 wheels, but it's sodding snowing. I'm going into hospital on Thursday so that write the following week out for doing anything strenuous too. :(

last week maybe the one before i finally had my towbar fitted to the car and today it got tested when some muppet drove straight into the back of me  She didn't even want to get out of her car so i kindly passed her her numberplate and smile as i walked back to my car with just two small clean areas. All she kept saying was nothing was stopping, erm i did

Then to top the drive home off my car is now a mile or 2 away from my home. got back to the farm walked the dogs, loaded some logs into the car for a nice fire, drove down the drive to find the road was closed in both directions :fume::fume::fume: one by a jack knifed lorry but the other way is just a abandoned car :bhead::bhead::bhead: So with the que of traffic backed up passed this car no one can get passed it, including the gritter ( first time it's been down that road since the end of the last snow. )

no gritter down this way either...now even the main road through lydd is a good inch deep in snow and the temps are meant to be dropping to -2\3 tonight ...
and an accident has closed the a259 just near the oasis cafe so glad i got home before that otherwise it means getting home via single track roads

I saw gritters out at 3 pm, around here, still it has settled nice on all the roads ,though I just drove home, tracks are appearing on the road, in a few places, so if it stops snowing sometime tonight roads might be a little better tomorrow.

naa not on the A22 around here, be dodgy in places for sure, though I can see Crowborough being a bit dodgy in the morning, it is actually melting in some places and still snowing, though the wind will certainly drift it a bit in places, that is assuming they got grit on the road before it snowed.

just seen a photo from a friend of the wife's that lives down the end of the town... they have waste high drifts over there where the wind has blown through the town and most of the snow has ended up there.. most of the roads around here are aready ice and being covered by more snow as not much traffic this time of night... no sign of a gritter either ..

well were going nowhere this morning... pretty much every road out of lydd is impassable for some reason  used to the smaller roads getting blocked, but the a259 to brenzett is shut , and the roads in new romney and on to hythe are shut aswell .... the main road outside my house is like a skating rink this morning
