Can verify that! Was up Ashdown Forest around early afternoon tother day, and there was a stag running around. Used to live up the Forest and deer were a constant pain in the harris........in the day time.

doesn't help with the banning of hand guns, made despatching by the road side so much easier. Not to mention the total pain that are the RSPCA who will happily try and take you to court if you use a tyre iron
you would be nearly as shocked at the number of people who then proceed to get funny with you once you do the good deed these days, bloody veggies :bhead:

Wouldn't stress about the RSPCA taking you to court, they have to have an extremely strong case to even think about doing so.
Have had mucho dealings with them, they are about as useful as a holey tissue.
I agree that humans are complete *!*?><**s.

But, this does beg the question..........anyone for venison?

Agree with putting the poor thing out of its misery......but a handgun? WTF? you used to carry one did you? Oh rock on.........NOT!
Hell, let's all carry AK47's just in case of a riot!!!!

Sounds similar to what happened when the car in front of me hit a deer a few weeks back - we wanted to end its misery but didn't know how (I was on the bike). I knew Tom would come back to find me shortly and was relying on him to sort it out! However, it got spooked and made its way back into the trees before he got back.

    No venison that night.

Not many people would be able to put a deer out of its misery with a tyre iron even if they had one. Would be bloody messy for a start. You couldn't even wring its neck could you. And, how would you know it was actually dead? There were a few times when I went out to an RTA involving badgers, would assess it as dead, and then it would come round just as you were transferring it into the van.
Would suggest everyone has the number of one of the centres that deal with wildlife, but, by the time one of them came out, the poor thing would have probably died anyway.
    :(

Neither the RSPCA nor the Police came out - despite saying they would. After the third call to the police to find out where they were they then decided to tell us that they weren't coming after all. Shame they didn't say that two hours earlier. No idea what happened to the RSPCA.

You are starting to worry me with your intense desire to constantly carry and use a firearm. Tell me, have you thought about moving to South Africa :D

You don't need a gun, just get a Labrador.

Why do I keep finding deer related stuff?

Don't get me started on the RSPCA. They arent interested unless it is a cruelty case with the animal nearly dead! Oh, unless it is on the news and then they pull out all the damn stops.
Would not have even bothered to call the police, these days they wont come out to anything like this. Their answer? "We respond to calls in order of emergency"....which translates to, "We wont be out because there is always something more important than an animal suffering". What would they have been able to do anyway?
Deer rarely survive the journey to a treatment centre. If the deer is unable to get up and run, it is more than likely too far gone. Harsh, but true. Trying to stove it's head in isn't exactly humane, so, what IS the answer?
