I went on one a few years back and had a great day. I had to pay, of course, but it was less then the fine would have been. It was very pro-bike, which made a change and it was certainly a lot more fun then a day at work.
I didn't tell my insurance company and they never asked. I was doing 35 in a 30 limit and got distracted by the badly parked camera van, so I couldn't complain about getting caught.
I didn't rush out at the end and took my time picking up a copy of the highway code and a couple of pens ( included in the cost of the course so I wasn't leaving without my share) and one of the instructor chappies walked out to the car park with me. He had a good look at the Striple and then said he had a Moto Guzzi and we had a nice, long chat. That left me half a day free so I spent the rest of the day out on the bike. It could have been worse.
