    Guys,

Can anyone in the know tell me if the following will be ok for fixing a floating shelf to a stud wall (it wont be taking much weight but i don't want it to fall down either)?

The hole I need to drill is using a 7mm drill bit (needs to be this size to fit the hole of the bracket) and the screw I have is 40mm long (provided with the shelf).

    http://www.screwfix.com/p/hollow-wall-anchors-6-13mm-m5-x-43mm-pack-of-10/18266

They provided normal rawl plugs which i used for putting up some of the shelves on the normal wall but the rest of the shelves I have to put up are on stud walls so I think i need special rawl plugs.

Will the plasterboard rawl plugs in the link be adequate for the fittings I have above?

    Cheers for your help

    Neil

Yeah they are fine  might even be heavier duty than you need but that won't hurt

been a sparks for 30 odd years and always hated fixing to plasterboard walls but if you gotta then either the type you have or a butterfly sprung loaded type are probably the best fixing you are going to get, be aware the type you have are permenant and should you ever choose to remove the shelf you will have a hell of a job removing it, the butterfly type you simply unscrew and the butterfly drops into the wall cavity leaving a hole ready to be filled.
the downfall of the butterfly type is to remove the shelf for decorating etc you sacrifice the butterfly each time and fit a new one.

I much prefer the butterfly type for the easier making good when you take something down as I always seem to be doing for SWMBO! I think they provide a firmer fixing too.

Even though you lose the fitting down the wall on removal it's only pennies.
Anybody want some cheap butterfly fixing bolts, I have hundreds .

I put up a floating shelf on to my plaster board wall and the weight of the shelf (wasn't even a large shelf) pushed the bracket into the plaster and made it slope forwards! It could just have been the cheap board they used on this house but it even did it on a second shelf! Had to put another bracket underneath them to stop them sinking into the wall.

    Just saying :)
