i was reading about the guy caught at 122mph and thought this would be interesting for all those going for rides in France !

here are the fines and penalties you will get if caught out here ( British plated bikes will just get the fine but they are trying to change that so you will also get points on the license )

    - in a over 50KPH area : up to 19kph over the limit = 68€ and 1point on the license

    - in 50KPH area or less : up to 19Kph over the limit = 135 € and 1 point

    - ALL areas : between 20 and 29 kph over the limit = 135 € and 2 points

THIS IS WHERE IT GETS NASTY !

    -ALL areas : between 30 and 39 kph ( 19 and 24 MPH ) over the limit = 135 € + 3 points + 3 year driving ban !

    -ALL areas : between 40 and 49kph over the limit = 135€ + 4 points + 3 year driving ban + vehicle confiscation

    -ALL areas : over 50kph = 1500€ fine + 6 points + 3 year driving ban + vehicle confiscation

Now as soon as you get banned , you have to go to court and they decide weather you have to do all the theory stuff and the driving lessons again or not ...

So once you have past your test again if you are caught doing:

    50KPH or more than the limit AGAIN : 3750€ fine + 6 points + vehicle confiscation + 3 year driving ban + 3 month prison .

Thats basically it, anything that involves banning a license you get to go to court ... and there are a load more complications that I don't know about ...
So i just stick to basics :)

Don't go too mad in France boys and girls ...

well ... i've seen people loose their licence on country roads... as 20 MPH over the limit you get a 3 year ban , everyone does 20 over the limit , but I reckon you are cool with a english licence and plates ...

Problem is the polis will pull you if you are in a line of traffic and do you for the dosh, there is no argument on earth that will change their minds. Like Spain if you get pulled it's very difficult to argue your way out of it. Got pulled in the camper van and knew they were taking the pee and refused to argue, had all my docs and knew, I'd done nothing wrong. After 15 mins of argy bargy, I held my wrists out and told them to take me to the station with cuffs. They threw my docs back and told me in swearing terms to p****off.
I knew they spoke English they didn't know I spoke Spanish. They were intimating I had been drinking in the local bar and driving over the limit, no breathalyzer and no proof, then said I was speeding thru the town. I had been in the bar drinking, but only cafe con leche. My van took 10 mins to reach 50mph at the best of times!
Many times they have hassled tourists into spot fines, €30/40, will go in their pockets and the driver is pleased to get away lightly. If you protest and want to be taken to the station they get bored.

Don't wanna be negative but think it's getting worse, always best these days to go in a group. Sad!

it is getting worse ... but they fine people for doing 5kph over the limit whereas if you do 170KPH ( 110MPH i think ) on the motorway the cameras here don't flash in time , bad driving never gets caught ...

I am always fixing it :) that hasn't changed , but when it works its a beast ! and you know this that R1 of yours could never keep up especially in the wet heyy :csmoke:
