Sadly this weekend was not to be. Having slogged through ridiculous Friday traffic for nearly 6hrs we finally met up with Alan and convoyed the last 10mins to Donington. We were set up, scrutineered and enjoying a beer by 8pm.
Sat morning we got ready, warmed bike up and then Alan went to put race plugs in. The thread had gone in one of the spark plug sockets and the new threaded insert decided it was not going to hold. Had we raced there was a risk of the spark plug blowing out straight into Alan's chin. They come out with force! Needless to say that was our race weekend over :(.
So, will enjoy the racing, a few bevvies and the live music tonight and head back tomorrow.

It was such a disappointment for Leila and Alan to get so close to getting onto the track and then have to make the decision that it really was impossible to repair the bike and continue. However, once the decision was made, Leila made good use of the chance to watch more racing and learn more about the track and how other sidecar passengers were moving, so despite the torture of a day on the motorway in roasting temperatures, the weekend wasn't wasted.
We saw amazing bikes, did plenty of eating and drinking, marvelled at how low the planes were coming into East Midlands airport, directly above our heads and enjoyed the live music, met lots of really enthusiastic people and the gazebo didn't even attempt to blow away.
The journey home was problem free and although we were all still really sad there hadn't been any chance of racing it was still a really good weekend (many thanks for taking me with you Leila!).
A spark plug problem sounds so trivial but the potential for a really serious accident was real and I am very thankful that Leila, Alan and the beautiful bike all made it home safely and will all be racing again as soon as possible.
