I'd hate to have to keep my bike in London. On the Street Triple forum thefts are being mentioned regularly. Bikes have even disappeared from secure, underground parking, despite extra locks and CCTV. Most of these are taken by groups of 4 with covered faces and false plates on the vans. The Police can't do anything to help and even those who have trackers fitted find they have stopped working within 4 minutes of the theft.
Obviously this is not done by kids on scooters but catching some of those is a start and hopefully will lead to more being done about bike theft. It seems no matter how hard you try, if someone wants it they will get it.

27 a day that is a crazy number! It shows that it has been too easy for too long to get away with it and they know that if they do get caught the punishment is not worth worrying about. Maybe it is time to learn from countrys that go by the law if you steal we chop off your hand. I am sure we could find something else to chop off for repeat offenders.

I read somewhere that with cars becoming more difficult to steal due to improved security the professional gangs have turned to bikes as the security hasn't kept pace.

On the subject of 11 year olds going out and thieving, I must have had a very naïve childhood because I think I was still happily riding round on my bmx at that age!
