Having "liberated" an old "broken" CCTV recorder from work that was a simple fix by replacing the hard drive, I collected a 2 camera set from Screwfix today. Plugged them into the system to test before mounting them to the wall, only to find the recorders PSU has now died :(

il take a look if you want paul.. prob a 12v switch mode power supply so most often its a mosfet died or some of the rectifying circuit so often can be repaired for cost of some components.. and as for hard drives I have feck loads of those lying around lol

    depends ... :ninja: ... :rubhands:
but yeah computers , phones, electronics in general, guitars, amps ... anything people throw at me they cant get working... and occasionally bikes too when I find a spare 5 mins... this week I have mostly been tearing down my old practice/recording studio and now building a new one

Cheers for the offer Deano. I`ve also a shed load of hard drives so that was no problem. The PSU worked OK after installing the drive as it reformatted it & I changed the passwords & network settings then shut it down til I had the cameras. I changed the fuse, the kettle lead & also the wall socket but the psu green light refuses to come on but as its an external 12v DC 3amp supply similar to the ones used for laptops, I`ll just buy a replacement.

Don`t seem to be able to find 3A one so would a 5A be OK without frying the mainboard? I assume a 5A will supply up to 5A if the device will draw it but will happily supply 3A if thats all the unit requires.

Funny enough, its the turning back on thats causing the problem ;)

yes matey amperage rating on power supplies is max they supply. the device itself determines draw of said amps. only downside is usually larger psu , which in most cases doesn't matter.. oh and if you get a short in the mainboard then it will draw all 5 amps til it cooks :) but then to be honest 3 amps at 12v through most components will trash them anyway

OK thanks bud. For the sake of a "Free" box & just the cost of a PSU I think its worth a punt. The worst that`ll happen is it`ll die anyway & I`ll have to shell out for a new one :)

You don't need a fixer, you need a finder, all sounds very Harry Potterish
