Just wondering how many others like me love working on their machines? Have you ever thought of turning it into a business?

I own a successful business already but regret not doing something with bikes...Something I love.

    Anyone else feel the same?

I enjoy tinkering on cars and bikes although I wouldn't like to do it full time. My brother runs his own business doing such, and even though he doesn't make a ton of money from it, he enjoys what he does. :)

yup ive never used a garage for anything beyond tyre changes/tracking , for all my cars and bikes. engine rebuilds, servicing etc, do it all myself. Not sure I would want to do it full time tho, I enjoy it and wouldn't want to find that doing it everyday mars the enjoyment..i used to really enjoy playing with computers/programming/electronics, and now I work in the field day to day I really cant stand looking at the damn things in my free time lol ... so for that reason I think i'l keep it as a past time.

I couldnt do it full time due to work commitments but evenings and weekends would be fun. Im not even fussed if it doesnt make money either tbh, as long as i can cover costs. I would do it just so I dont regret not doing it.

I`m not mechanically minded so I think its safer to have someone who knows what they are doing do it for me :)

I have always worked on my own bikes and have worked on several SECB members bikes. I enjoy working on bikes more than most other jobs.

It's one of those things Ive always wanted to do but never did. Just anything to do with motorcycle's in general, not necessarily a mechanic. Being a life long biker, there's nothing nicer than being around other bikers and their bikes. We'll see how it goes.

Why not help spanner for a race team? Medium level teams are always keen to find pairs of hands willing to help with all sorts of roles without expecting to get rich.

I would love to spend my life working with bikes in one way or another. Gutted I am not more mechanically minded although do enjoy doing the easier tinkering on my own bikes. Have come up with a few ideas of how to get into a biking related job but have yet to make it a reality!

Likewise! Im still thinking too but seems Im gonna get into ultrasonic carb, Injector cleaning. Ive invested in the machine, now to see if i can get enough business to pay it off at least!

I was intending to start my own business about 9 years ago before a few hiccups left me in a less ideal situation for it. Offering performance tuning, styling and race prep.

The real issue with choosing to 'become' a mechanic is level of expertise and experience, doing an oil and filter or bolting bits on isn't too much grief but it's a far cry from an engine rebuild or suspension overhaul. Not to mention the singular knack of accurate diagnosis based solely upon the client offering "It's like a clicking, knocking, buzzing, squeaking, banging kind of noise sometimes but not always".

While it's possible to outsource those specialised jobs, rather than purchase the weighty collection of tools required purely to do them the real issue comes to clearing overheads while paying someone else for the more complex stuff and meeting the time constraints. That and most bikers are happy to get their hands dirty and do the basics already.
Restorations and customisation is much the same though, those that want it are either invested enough to do it themselves or want a level of service far beyond a "back street garage".
