That explains all...I always took 'blipping' to mean an increase.

Funny enough, I actually concentrated on what I was doing when I change up and down to see where my "blipping" occured lol. And yes, it is when changing down gears that I blip the throttle open (also still do it in manual cars - a throwback from having my little Spitfire many moons ago). I don't use clutch to go up but roll off throttle very briefly. Is that reverse blipping maybe? :giggle:

Some days it feels like I'm talking to myself, ho hum.

A blip has no orientation, it's just a brief deviation.

Disagree when talking about bikes though...blipping defo means revving.:p

Ah but your 'blip' to change down a gear clutchless involves coming off the throttle momentarily before revving, otherwise the clutch would be under more load not less and won't allow a change (not with your gearbox attached anyway).

Not to mention there's no need to change down unless you're slowing or below peak toque, in which case you'll be partial closed on the throttle also ;)

I think the differences arise from when ppl talk about "blipping", be it cars or bikes, its usually in the context of down changes & so most ppl assume its always a quick rise in revs.

I don`t usually bother blipping as my barge welcomes the extra engine braking & I really don`t care about "sounding cool" :)

I always blip when shifting down, i.e 4th > 3rd>2nd, on the Honda it sounds cool imo, but mainly it works well to smooooth the transition at high revs.

On the Harley when its in 'sportsbike mode and all excited believing its a proper sportsbike, its a prerequisite to not locking up the rear end. Also serves to slow the feking thing down as the single front disc is not up to much.. :D
