Had our eye on a former miner's house in Woolage for a while, finally got an offer in on ours but just found out the Woolage house is steel framed. Estate agents trying to find out more, and obviously a full survey would be needed, but anyone know anything in general about this sort of construction, or , this being a local forum, anything specific about these houses, built in 1912? It's a great house for us, better than anything we've seen, but likely be hard to sell and be losing value by the year. Not much on Google about pre First World War steel construction.

I've heard of pre-stressed concrete being almost impossible to sell other than for cash, or to get a mortgage on...but steel framed? Seen some modern steel framed stuff too but they've been large expensive places going up. Given the trades on here you're likely to get a more useful answer than mine. Luck Rob.

From my limited experience of looking to buy a 1920 's one....
If its steel with concrete infill ( prefabrcated.) if so few Building Societys will lend on it due to "concrete cancer" where the chemicals in the concrete corrode the steel. Most Surveyors will not do structural surveys on them as any "problems" are/can be hidden from the outside.
Internally condensation/dampness could/would be a problem as concrete cannot breath.
I surprised that the Estate Agent havent have dealt with sale/purchase of similar properties. May be worth chatting to other Agents in the area,

Looks like maybe Rob means steel framed with pre-stressed conc then. In addition to Rob's valid reasons also no fixings (drilling) can be made into the conc without losing integrity. A few years ago there were a couple of lenders willing to commit on these but took some seeking out.
