We are currently saving like crazy so I can get my next Bike early in the Year.
    I have had to date an SV650 and a Suzuki GSX-F 750.
Would appreciate anyone's comments or advice on where to go from here (Bikewise) and if anyone is likely to have anything available next year?

    Thanks guys:thumbsup: , Sara x

What style of bike do you fancy, i.e. naked, sports etc...how much will you have to spend? What do you want to do with it i.e. day long rides, touring etc.

Hey, I just bought a GSX650F and love it cause its similar lean position to the Hornet but looks sexier. But I am finding it a harder bike to 'love' compared to a Honda though.
No major complaints - goes great, good acceleration, good everything else. But...

At that price you're looking at a private sale, 1500 won't get you much from a shop I'd imagine.

As BH banits are bullet proof motors and good on a budget, SV's are a little sensitive to higher mileages and twin engines have more load on them so wear faster.

My old '03 SV had 27000 on the clock (apparently high mileage according to dealer when I traded her in) and she was probably the most reliable motor I've had, didn't even need the shim adjusting when had the 24000 service.

sara-gaz, you haven't said the sort of bike you're after. Is it another sports bike or something more practical/comfy?

Few bikes need any adjustments to the valve shims before actual high mileage (50k +) and modern (sub 5year) marques have a larger service interval too - most are up to around 6k from the average 3k that was expected in the late 90's / early 2000's.

A dealer definition of 'high mileage' is in regard to their chances of resale.
27k is not a high mileage, when I was riding regularly I covered an easy 20k miles a year and I didn't commute or ride as part of my work.

£1500 will be unlikely to get you a "low mileage" mid capacity bike from a dealer, which leaves you with private sales and it's still a touch low for much option.
Just remember that if it seems to good a deal to be true, it most likely is.

SV's are fragile bikes in comparison to their peers; hornets, bandits, fazers etc. But for the budget you have it's a great option, assuming you won't be doing mega miles on it and it's just for fun / weekend rides.

Would have more but sadly Gareth's bloody Bike is costing enough lol!!!
Alan, please keep us posted about yours
My SV was nice but I really preferred the more planted and heavier GSXF.
I don't mind about if it is naked or faired!!! Sports, Sports touring......
I am totally aware that our pennies ain't gonna buy me a Bike from a dealer which is the main reason I thought I would post on here incase anyone happens to know! I paid £1600 for my 2002 SV with just 11k on the clock and £1300 for my Teapot with just 14k on the clock.
    Thanks again folx
