Just wondered if people ever change their Handle Bar grips for ones that are more comfortable, or in my case if after riding for a while my fingers and thumb on Right hand tingle, when I touch things with the tips :), and Suggestions Please.

I might add only get it I think when I wear Summer light Gloves, never noticed it with my warmer gloves that are too hot for this weather

I use Grip Puppies from Bikerbitz to give a bigger diameter & to stop vibes. Cost about £16 & took just a few mins to fit them over the existing grips. If its just the right side maybe you're squeezing too hard.

You might find that adjusting your bars may also help. It may be something as simple as aggrivating a nerve in your shoulder / neck / wrist (and only notice the effects when wearing thinnner gloves as your thicker ones may afford some slightly restricted movement). Just a thought.

As Les I also use Grip Puppies. Tingling fingers can also be caused if your glove fingers are not long enough.... Got that from a Ride Magazine artical.

I saw those Bob but wasn't sure how hardwearing the foam would be. These seem to be made of wetsuit type neoprene.

Try both altering the angle of your bars and your levers. I used to get numbness on my outer two fingers which is now fixed by doing just that.

Ohhhh I told hubby that I get that and he just brushed it off and said it's just the bike vibrating!

So I could have changed this and actually have felt the handle bar........arrrrrgg

Thanks for asking MaDProFF! I was never game enough to cause I thought it was just something I was doing wrong!

I have read up a bit about it, quite a few people complain, and quite a few ways to help with the problem,

1/ Change grips for better ones, or Grip Puppies.
2/ Bar end weights/protectors are suppose to help with removing some of the vibration.
3/ Fill the handle bars with Liquid Butyl (cannot be bothered to find correct spelling) rubber squeezed in with a mastic gun (what ever they are called)
4/ Tight Thin Gloves (one of my problems, gloves not to short on the fingers but the palms and fingers are just thin leather, no padding on the hand side, though protectors/padding on the top side of the gloves so fine for protecting.
5/ Gripping to tight, (like me hanging on for Grim Death) and how you sit, grip lean etc. some say grip tank more with legs to help not need to grip as hard on the handle bars.
6/ Grips are too small for bigger hands.

I have ordered the Grip Puppies though my hands are quite small so maybe make the grips too big for winter gloves.
I was thinking of bar end protectors anyhow.
And not rocket science to squeeze liquid rubber in to the handle bar ends.

I'd say that nos 1 & 5 are the best cures (esp since your bike is naked & upright, no jokes required).

Have had success with foam grips and lead not butyl inside the bars. The heaviest bar ends you can get will help.

At the risk of repeating myself, which actually is not a risk but a fact - check your set up!

Too many people think that changing the kit on a bike is the first thing to do, and so few people actually check to see if the bike is set up for them. You don't get into a new car and just drive off do you? (BlackHornet you are excused from this question). You change the seat position, the mirrors, some of you will alter the height and angle of the steering wheel. It's the same on a bike. Are you elbows, wrists, fingers in line or at angles? What about your set up for your foot pegs? Most of you will change the angle of the mirrors on a bike when you ride it for the first time, and know about changing the suspension set up... why not the rest?

Quite often sorting the bike set up to suit you will negate the need to buy new bits... but then we can all be guilty of finding more enjoyment buying bits for the bike than fiddling with the set up.

I understand Hana what you are staying, but in my case, everything is pretty well in line, I also notice it more when I am riding harder and this means that the throttle is being turned around more, thus making my wrist turning more and fingers not, so I must make sure that when gripping the throttle that I roll my hand forward around it more in the first place if you understand what I mean, but using thin gloves I am sure causes the problem to multiply as you are gripping a smaller area. and I only notice it really after quite a lot of riding as well.

I was intending to add bar ends anyhow, the OEM grips are not the best, and you can buy far better grips/ grip puppies for little money. so all in all it can only help.

Thanks for all the replies too

The more frequently you ride the bike, your body will naturally get used to the 'new' position and feel of the machine. You wont notice as much discomfort. Bit like building up 'stamina' in a run for example. Cant expect to run 5 miles if you havnt done it for a while and no point in buying expensive, bouncy, extra air inflated, £300 running shoes to enable you too either, as you wont then build up the natural physique/muscle/stamina needed. Grip puppies are a good buy imo.
