With all you coasties on here, someone must know of a quietish sandy beach with easy access, parking, beach type shower/cold tap that we could adopt for a hot days ride/smim?

Only place i know that is sandy will be Camber or Newhaven (where the 'Arm' is).
Its all pebbles, chalk and rock pools darn sarf, much like Pett level which is good if the kids (young and old) like rock pooling. Personally i like the Beachy head area when the tides going out, but you may find some naughty naturists (at least) if you follow the coastline on foot (and no i wont refund your petrol if you don't see any.)
Parking is never easy and i dont think there are showers, maybe at birling gap?

beachyhead.JPG This is the general area, nice grassy downs with excellent views atop the cliffs.
Kiosk.JPG Where the ''star'' is on the map, there is a little cafe called the kiosk. On a bike i ride up the gravely access road (Dukes Drive on 2nd map) to the left of the kiosk (have to ride round the barrier if down) and up on top of the downs which leads you across the grassy hills or (after a short walk) down to the beach.

Les - have a look at my pics on FB. Shellness Beach on the island is great (if you avoid the naked types). It's a mix of sand and shell (obviously). Very quiet and parking is free, although you have to drive down a very bumpy track for about 3/4 of a mile to get to it. You could pop your paddle board in the water next to the village and send everyone else around the other side , following the footpath. No shops and no showers, but I see that as a good thing :).

High tide today is at about 2pm ish. Swimming is ok as it's very shallow. Sea bed is pretty slushy though.

As kids, my grandparents always used to take us to Dymchurch. Plenty of sand & not too many amusement arcades.

If you take a ride out my way, let me know (esp if you're going to attempt the bumpy track as I like hitting it hard on the bike - kicking up dust / and getting a little bit of air. Cars = 10mph... KTM = 50+).

Yes, Dymchurch was ok as I recall, another for my list of places to try. I remember they had a cold tap outside the loos, which we used to rinse off after.

We used to park in the car park of the ship pub next to the martello tower but I think there is a public car park there now too.

camber is nice but too many people head there at the slightest glimmer of sun... i heard the traffic there yesterday was horrendous ...same with dymchurch as evryone heads ther for the amusements and the beach.. and the roads in and out arnt great ... there is one large carpark at the martello tower as you just get to the town, quite expensive if i remember correctly . also you need to catch the tide otherwise when high theres no beach just seawall ..littlestone/greatstone is ok when the tide is out as you get quite an expanse of sand uncovered at low tide but the rest of the beach is shingle. alternatively, jurys gap which is just outside camber on the way to lydd is good but on windy days all the kite surfers are out

main problem is there's just too many damn people these days. hard to find anywhere quiet unless the beach is off some beaten track . or is muddy/crappy beach ..
