The Best Beech pub http://goo.gl/maps/OL8ji is a new venue that is trying to make its mark. Tonight was their second monthly meet and had Freestyle riders playing around on trials bikes and cycles.

The new landlord is a biker himself, the food is excellent (curry night tonight!) and the beers - well, I was on the bike, so no beer for me... Really hope this meet becomes established as it is a great pub and location.

The next meet is expected to be the second Weds of September (TBC). Would be nice to see bikers starting to support this place.

    :)

I certainly will - when a date is known and a few days before. :)

If the grub is good, this place looks central to most too, so perhaps it could become our monthly meet?

Yes, it's about time we did stuff that wasn't always based around the South Coast (hence my absence on rideouts etc these days).

Any venue, and i'm sure there are many, many who would like support from bikers, need to offer something to us other than just a plea for our ££ and a desire to become popular imo.

What are they doing/offering to make their mark? Have they got a pool/snooker table (free would be good), big tv with sport channels, decent parking, realistically discounted prices for groups of bikers ?

The "new" owners have been there about 3-4? months. ( The pub has had 4/5 owners/managers in as many years).
10/15 yrs ago is was a very popular Restuarant the owner at the time also ran The Old Vine @ Cousley Wood (2011 Xmas Dinner pub).
Parking is tarmac and is on opposite side to Pub with plenty more on the dead end road which runs alomgside the carpark.
It is situated on crossroads junction and at the brow of a hill, very bad visibility when crossing from the car park to the pub or when driving/riding out. My elder daughter worked there evenings and weekends for a few years and I had several near misses when dropping her of or collecting her during daylight hours.
I pass the pub very frequently and since the original post have made a point of watching for any advertising re a "bike night".
I have seen boards out advertising "Quiz Night" " Curry Night" and " Live Sky Sports"., but I've not seen anything bike related. I agree with Kevin what are they offering or are they just trying to find a source of income, or am I just old and cynical?

If they offered a naked Thai massage, I might go. Even better if it was a girl.

I live in Cousley Wood opposite The Old Vine (2011 Xmas Dinner pub) incidently now under new ownership and proving very popular and pass the Best Beech regularly. I have not seen any advertising mentioning bike nights.

There is no hiding it that the pub is working with Freestylebikes (just down the road) with a mutual aim to attract bikers and their money (they're businesses afterall...).

Do they offer a free pool table or Sky Sports TV? No they don't and they don't intend too. What they have been (and will be) offering are trials demos (have a go if you want) and the Nuda 900R demo bike for people to try. Food really is great and makes a pleasant change to the more traditional cafe that seems to be the Wednesday night hang-outs. It will not appeal to everyone, it is true...

Unfortunately I had knee surgery yesterday so can't drive for a few days but quite willing to go and see what they have to offer after that. I wonder though where they demonstrate the bikes because there is very little room. The Best Beech is on the brow of a hill and the car park opposite is very small. I have been to Freestylebikes up the road where they also repair and sell lawnmowers etc, maybe they do it there?

That's the bike... I'm sure usual conditions apply for any demo bike (I don't need to ride it, I own one!).

The trials demo area is in the car park - a big trailer and a few obstacles is enough to play. (including the pub, of course!).
