Public place so they have no RIGHT to see footage without a court order. If you weren`t doing anything wrong, then its less hassle to just show it but ypu do NOT have to show it. Most coppers will "Try it on" but if you plainly point out that they have no rights, most will back down as they know they don`t. Photographers & filmakers need to make a stand else we`ll lose what rights we do have mate.

The rules are clear - they can't stop you filming in a public place. Using kids as a reason is playing on societies insecurities and over blown risk of pedophiles - it's getting to the stage that anyone with a camera must be a pedophile... The Police have no right to view your images/footage without arresting you first. They have no right to insist you delete the images - and why would they? Particularly in London, the Police have abused their powers under the Anti-Terrorism act and have prevented filming and/or deleted images by inferring you are a terrorist but without evidence or intention of arrest. If they ask to see your images or ask you to delete the file, politely ask why and say no. Your call if you want to press the point to the extent where they arrest you (but if they do and you were doing nothing wrong, you have a good case and there are legal begals who specialise in this area).

In many cases, it is a security guard or member of the public that has taken offence to you having a camera and has started the whole situation. Rather than argue the law with the accuser, it is easier just to deal with you as the "cause" - easy option if you comply with their requests. Remember, they are there to protect your rights as much as anyone elses.

And on a final point, let's face it, if they believed you were committing a crime, why would they ask you to delete the images? They would be deleting their best evidence.

Equally, but super-careful about uploading your vids online. If you do, keep them private and share them via a link only. The Police have been known to regularly prosecute speeding bikers / drivers through this means... and when the speedo isn't in shot, they use a marker system to verify the speed. As soon as I realised this, I blocked any public views of my vids.

I know from experience that a magic word to use when asked by anyone, why are you using or carrying video cameras, etc is to say 'it is for my own protection'' (dont say this if carrying a baseball bat). Then turn it on and point it in there direction. (last part is optional and dependant on the circumstances. A situation may arise where turning the cam off may be advisable to protect yourself from any incriminating evidence :D )
