Ive got a Contour HD1080p  http://www.contour-hd.co.uk/contour_hd_camera which has dropped in price since last year from £230 ish to £145 according to the link above.

Real easy to use, i.e it has a big 'on/off'' slider switch which also bleeps loudly enough to hear when its on the bike (at low ish speed). One bleep on, 2 bleeps off. Expandable memory to 16gig (=4 hours record time, i think they even do 32 gig card.) Mounts real easy with 'RAM' ball mounting accessories. Ive also had really good support from the manufacturers when the battery went dead in just under a year even though the warranty states 6 months. Not used a go pro but the quality does look as good. Personally i chose the Contour because i prefered the bullet shape. Only down side is the built in mic pics up lots of wind noise when mounted on the helmet but no problem when when mounted on the bike and it does pick up more exhaust sound that way. A couple of examples below, obviously degraded quality after upload. Happy to show you it anytime you free, im up the road near Hailsham.

Message me for some vid links if you want a utube demo  (@Late -)

Got a Gopro HD motorsport, top bit of kit, got the original one, not the HD2, they are selling the 1 off cheap because of the update :)

loads of ways to mount, either using ram mounts or the gopro mounts, you can get some good angles on a sports bike, using the brackets that come with it
throw me a PM if you want a link to a compress video

Rather than start a new thread, I'm looking at the New Drift HD1080P. I can get it for £154.95 incl p&p...attachments etc...remote start n stop....

Don't really want the Brick Profile of the GoPro, just wondered if anyone here has bought it ?

I found a really nice Contour HD camera on the roadside in Sussex. Nowt wrong with it and saved me a fortune, eh Sporty ;). Oh and Kev - your camera picks up 'wind noise' even when you aren't on the bike.

Nosing around Video cameras as well the HDpro 2 looks the best, though sticks out like a sore thumb, and can be grabbed for like £229, shame it not made in black

They produce great quality film, but you're right, positioning could be an issue. I've found that bike-mounted cameras are really only any good when on smooth roads... and we don't have too many of those in our 'hood.

    I know that others here will have seen this, but as you're the new boy, take a look (if only because some of it is filmed with HD Pro cameras);

After looking at loads of vidoe's and mounting variations etc. gone and done it now, ordered GoPro Hero 2 motorsport, and the chest strap, I actually ordered from Board Riders in Brighton, they priced matched so both for £255.94. though they not got it in stock will pick up in a day or so. Why did I choose GoPro, Quality of video's, (it is the best out there atm) the amount of accessories available and that comes with the motorsport edition, also comes with a case that is both very shock, & water proof, so all in all not a bad price.

Just before i lost mine i was experimenting with angles and mounts. I do like a helmet mount as it captures the riders view but can become 'jumpy' with excessive head movements, this can be carefully edited so not to become too dstracting whilst adding a 'raw' element. I found a handlebar mount was pretty good but 'normal', it didn't add any extra dimension. I had wanted to get a forward and rear cam for editing fun but never got that far.

Ultimately i think a good film/clip (interesting subject with variation of mounts/angles) essentially depends on the subject matter, angle and good editing. Ive filmed loads that upon watching was just boring..

@MadProFF - Go PRo - Good choice for the reasons you said. Fekin ugly though. Which you also said. :D

@Jago - Love that clip , especially the remote car and hellicopter flying thingumy with a cam on it. Fantastic, just like the movies..

Well a good film clip, sequenced really needs more than one camera, as I said one of the reasons I choose this system, is the mounts available for it and its housing, some have even attached it to the belly pan, also there is an external mic jack, that would be useful to run a mic away from some wind, (next to exhaust lol) though I think a hole in the housing would have to be made. Apparently the suction pad that comes with it is good for up to 200 mph. In the pipeline is an app to control it as well, with the added wi fi pac so fully remote I am hoping.
Editing is only as good as the person editing it, I have adobe Premier (and aftereffects) anyhow, (Part of CS5) only messed with it a little and extremely complicated, but so was Photoshop got my head around that, another Plus point is GoPro seems to be very good at slow mo as well. seems more time gonna be spent in front of puter :(
On a Side note, started messing with GPS Loggers some great free apps for mobiles around now.

Look forward to seeing the spec/extras and editing software you use. I'm gonna get a new one at some point, i much prefer the 'bullet' style of the contour hd but as Ducky has also experienced some of the mounts are shite. Might go with the Pro too..

Talking of Camera's slight off topic, what rights does a Policeman have to view your footage? If a policeman saw a biker with a camera on the bike, lets face he gotta be tempted to wanna have a look for incriminating evidence.

As with photography, if you are in a public place you are allowed to film & they have NO right to view or delete footage.
