How long can you leave tyres standing for before they perish and need to replace them. Mine have next to no miles but have been standing for over a year now. Once I get my tank back things should start to get moving quickly. Just trying to get a heads up if I need to budget for new rubber? Thanks

Check for cracks, but personally, I don't think standing for a year is too major. When I got the dragstar, it stood (garaged though) for bloody months and the tyres were fine :)

Main thing is keep em outta the sun and preferably keep em in a cool, dark shed. Have a look in the bottom of the treads and the sidewalls for small cracks.

Also, you should rotate the contact point regularly, 6 weekly or so. Ideally keeping the bike up on stands and dropping the psi is the best option but not always viable.

As said, check for cracks, correct pressures before using and after the first rides.

I reckon they're best off the floor up on paddock stands..... and covered up, and did you know that a concrete garage floor can leech the 'oils' out from the tyres over a period of time which leads eventually to perishing and cracks...

I do this and my tyres last well......:)

Unless they've been 'smoked' obviously.....(thought I'd better mention that before someone else does......)

cool, thanks guys. will keep an eye on them. They are always covered up, the rear wheel is off the ground but the front is on the floor. Will look to rotate the point of contact if not to late lol
