Hi all, I'm looking for a local biker who witnessed an accident that I was involved in, he has a bad ass black suzuki (I think) with flat bars all blacked out and customed to look similar to a low riding hog. He wears a black leather jacket and jeans and a german looking helmet in black. He said he was a local motorcycle instructor and the police said he was the perfect witness and when I requested his details they want to charge me over £100!! Please can you ask him to contact me on 07508899244 Tony. Cheers all

Can't you ask that they give him your details for him to phone you?

How do they justify the divulging of contact details to cost £100. Surely they either can (and should) to aid the course of justice, in which case not doing so is illegal(?) or they can't on grounds of confidentuality in which case passing your details onto him, as Napa says, would seem the logical route.

I suppose the other option is to ring the local bike schools, means leg work but would be effective.

Give your Insurance Company the details and the Accident Report number and let them sort it.

Usually when the case file is closed, the Police will release certified extracts of that file to people who have a legitimate requirement, for example the claimant, solicitors and insurance companies, but only upon payment of the fee which can be anything between £60 and £120 depending on how much information there is within the file and whether there are photographs.

The fee is to pay for the time it takes the civillian support staff to process, remove information that may be subject to data protection and then photocopy the relevant documents, and then ultimately post it on to the person that has requested the information and paid the fee..

It can still take several months after the file has been closed to receive the paperwork though, and I have had to wait up to 12 months after the date off the crash before I have received the files, and in fatal cases it can take even longer because of the inquest, or if there is a prosecution it will also take longer before the case files are closed.

That said, the question has often been asked, why are the Police unable to provide the details of witnesses to claimants, and the stock answer tends to be Data Protection!! Yeah Right

I think I've seen a bloke/bike fitting that description down The Adelaide Cafe, Deal on a Wednesday bike night.

If it was around Hastings, Bexhill, Battle, Sidley, Ninfield the instructor from 1066 used to ride something like this. His name is Neil.
