I do Like some scotter Vespas & Brettas only really but i did have a scotter like tom i had a FS1e and Yamaha BWS love these both and at the age of 16 the world was my oyster riding all they way to lincon for a weekend away - but persoanly we was not stupid like some of the TW*T`s riding them now. i always wore protective cloths (not leathers ) - But life has changed loads since i was that age 2.25 it cost to fill up then ...lol - but most of the people now get themself a bad name but just remember there are also good people on them being Sensible to !!!

Oh I used to rag the nuts of my 50`s, same as everyone else coz it was the only way to make any sort of progress but I would always obey the "rules of the road" or at least try to.

As for cars, I have no shame in admitting I that I didn`t pass my car test until I was 22 & even as a new driver, I had better options than the average new driver. First car was a 4yr old but very tidy Mk3 cavalier & second car was a top spec 9month old Vauxhall Senator so I was a much more careful.

I wonder if young people & non biking parents think scooters are safer than bike style mopeds just because of their looks? Don`t forget, most parents buy a riders first ride so will always have the final say on what is bought.

I`d never thought of that before & I think you could be right. Maybe living in "the sticks" has a positive effect as you are always looking for the "silent" dangers such as horses or a slow moving farm vehicle that could be lurking round the next bend. Not to mention having to travel further to get to places meaning more riding miles to gain experience per week compared to the majority of "urban" riders.

I couldn`t afford leathers but I did get a quilted shooting jacket with leather shoulders & elbows to wear under a suede coat I got from somewhere.

I must admit that if someone looks like they are (in my opinion) making a genuine effort i.e. decent protection (This is MY opinion so lets not open the protective clothing debate again please ;)) and a maintained bike, I`ll give them a nod or wave too. Credit where credit is due.

Oh there are sensible people out there, you just don`t notice them. It`s always the bad ones that stand out because they are not obeying the rules.

Forum wise, certainly more 'macho', aggressive with lots to prove, possibly more hirsute too...

Sounds pretty much akin to people who go tanking down straights then can't hold their speed in the corners, anchoring up and causing a dangerous situation.
Be fast or be slow, but be consistent.

I'll decline you invitation to dress as a girl in town but...just let 'em go. You & they know your bikes quicker out of town so what's to prove? Or isn't that the masculine answer?;)

I used to ride a scooter to work, albeit a Gilera Runner 180, but it was so practical and easy to maintain/clean that I would most likely still be using it, had the engine not given up the ghost and forced me to start using my motorbike.

Quite interesting how some of you slate the scooter rider and are tarring them all with the same brush! Next you will be moaning about all bikers getting bad press! For every idiot scooter rider I am sure that there is a good one and also an equally bad bike rider!

I too was a scoot (LI 175) rider around Taunton when 17 & sometimes even wore a helmet. Like most teenagers I felt invincible & can't recall ever feeling vulnerable despite using no protective gear at all but never once came off despite mostly riding like a loon. Lucky...oh yes, but what fun.

If you're being blatantly & purposely held up, by anyone, that's another matter so maybe they're looking for a reaction from you. Perhaps it's time for you to dress as a man.;)

So you don't consider yourself or your aggressive macho attitude to be contributing to the problems you are experiencing in any way then?
