The pay in lieu of notice is taxable, the extra pay-off shouldn't be and I'm getting that confirmed. My calculations on how long it'll last are on the basis of it not being taxable.

Will call HMRC in the morning... again. Dear lord I'm tired of HMRC!

Yes, it is. However my pay-off is split into four parts - pay in lieu of notice (the bulk of it at three months notice period), severance pay, legal fee cover and holiday due. I'm assuming severance and legal fee cover will be tax free but not the rest. Should find out tomorrow... every little helps!

 

Pay in lieu of notice is not taxed as long as you do not work. This is your contractural notice period that starts at formal notice of redundancy after the consulation period.

 

That's not what the HMRC website and my employers say. Will check it with HMRC when I call them tomorrow.

 

I think it does depend on exactly how the payment is proposed and agreed. I will get more info in the morning.

2. Some exceptionally positive movement on the new job front.

considering the fact i have my daughter home with me today, and thinking id miss this gorgeous weather , my sister in law offered to have my littlun for a couple of hours whilst i popped out on the bike to get some bits.. so a nice hours unexpected ride this morning . then i get to spend the rest of the day with my littlun.. going to enjoy this weather whilst it lasts
