Buy an Optimate type trickle charger & if you have access to power, leave it plugged in whenever you leave for more than a few days. I've put a terminal on all our bikes for ease of access to the battery & not had any more probs. Trouble is the alarms use so much juice. Might be worth getting a 'drop test' done on the battery as, despite it being newish, the charging rate might not be right (too much/too little) possibly meaning the regulator/rectifier is on the way out. Even that is a fairly cheap fix at around £90 (I think) for an R1 & is a common fault with lots of bikes.

Battery should be 13, not 10. If it only registers 10 then you have a duff battery, has it ever become totally discharged as that can damage the cell?
As PM says get an optimate, if you can't leave it plugged in on the bike then take the battery out when you won't be needing it over the weekend and keep it indoors and charging.

R/R's are pretty generic amoung bikes and you should be able to nab one for £40 but that would be a charging issue and the bike probably wouldn't start in the evening if that was the case, much like a duff alternator on a car.

Check your alarm settings (wasn't that giving you trouble a while back?) and turn off the tilt / proximety sensor, that will save you a lot of battery charge.

Although if it's purely a temperature issue then your battery is naff, take it back and get a refund. It's not a Rob Hunter by any chance is it?

4 month old battery........take it back to where it came from, get a replacement. Cant be much damn cop if it loses charge in the cold. Obviously the problem would not have been evident when first purchased due to warmer weather. Or am I merely being stupid again?
Oops didn't see the above responses, but hey, this is my tuppence worth.

Would you like us to help you take it back, Tanya? I am thinking perhaps you purchased it from your favourite Yamaha agency..! I imagine that Customer Services might listen a little more carefully if your request for a replacement battery was backed by a dozen stern-looking club members. :chppr::MC::bike::tball: This is you::ldown:

Check the make of the battery also, Rob Hunters are toss. Dynavolt, Motobatt and Yuasa are reliable brands if it's not holding the correct current though then it could have a faulty cell and will need returning.

There, and I thought 'Malling' was an American hobby. I didn't know it was a village! How do I recognise a 'scrote'? [he asked, in all innocence].

From the cctv footage of 3 of them breaking into my garage exactly a year ago. Then stealing 3 bikes, all gear inc helmets etc...oh yeah, & emptying the freezer. They got nicked later that day but all walked without charge.

I see why you feel quite strongly about this; did they get off on a technicality? I should have though that CCTV evidence (unless super-blurry) would suffice to convict. Add to that the freezer burns and presence of three bikes demonstrably not their property and they ought to have been bang to rights and no mistaking, Guv'nor - yo'r a reel gent an' no mistake. Gor blimey; luvva duck.

Or am I thirty years out of date? Innit?

There's more. A neighbour witnessed (& made a statement to seeing) 2 bikes being ridden then loaded into a (later to be discovered to be) stolen van up the road. My jacket/gloves were found in one of their flats when arrested near the van but the CPS told the police it couldn't be ID'd as mine. They were happy enough though to restore it to me when it bunged up their bulging store room. Apparently STILL lack of evidence despite reasonable CCTV, statement, forensics (clear footprints in the snow) & even the scouse accent of one of them, overheard by my witness who even followed them onto the local estate. CPS=useless IMO. Needless to say security 'measures have been' taken to stop a repeat but it still rankles. PS, sorry to bore those who heard this story before.

maybe when they find three bodies all under your patio, a blood stained baseball bat in your front room and a video on youtube of you battering them you will be lucky and have the same outcome ;)
