    Dear All,
I feel the need for a change of bike, but I can’t decide on if I should go for another sports bike or a street fighter? Is it wrong to by a ‘ready made’ street fighter or should I modify the Gixer?

Do you mean a street fighter or a naked sports?

Always had sports bikes pre accident, now have a Striple. Handling isn't so different as the geometry is still sporty, once you get used to the bars and seating position they're just as quick in the twisties and much better at low speed.

Real 'street fighters' are horrible machines, handle like boats rarely stop and generally have frames like a banana :p
But the whole point is in the building something from nothing, if you want a custom 'something' I'd say build your own (or get me too ;) ) as that's the whole point and most of the satisfaction.
If it's naked then buy a Striple. It's the best one out there.

I thought a "street fighter" was a "sports bike" that had been down the road and the owner couldn't afford to repair it. :coat:

Good, yes. Great, no. Striple has topped the charts for 4 years for good reason.

@Guzzi, that's basicly where it started. Then the boys at Harris / Magnum / Spondon got involved in making them special one off's. Unfortunately most 'streetfighters' are just smashed up sports bike with a set of renthals thrown on them and the can cut down to remove the scratched part.

I wouldn't modify the GSXR as when you go to sell it people will think you've binned it and was unable to repair it properly. Which was pointed out earlier.

There are some really good sports nakeds out there. Personally, I'd rather a sports naked over a sports bike for the road as they're more pratical and you can get more out of them. I love sports bikes but I will get one for track day use, one day !

If you're desperate to change then do it now as show rooms are willing to give you so much more for your money, wait until march/april and you may not get as much.

If you can hang on then your easily get a good 2008 cb1000r (or the like) for around 4.5k, especially around Xmas.

    Happy shopping !

Ask Megawatt - clearly, he's into streetfighters. Personally, I'd say that it depends on your riding style and where you ride. I've always found the wind blast into the chest a massive drain on the shoulders / neck. Great fun everywhere except motorways.

I agree with other people here - an 'off the peg' naked bike is a much better option if you want to take that route. It'll have higher residual values too.

That was a concern I had when moving from sports to naked bikes, but the wind blast is negligible below about 90, unless you travel along the m20 regularly then it shouldn't be a problem, certainly no more than a low screened sports bike is without adopting a racing pose.

Very true indeed. Alas I spend alot of time on the M2, although the double-bubble screen helps :). Without it I'd look like Dierdre Barlow when I arrived at work... although to be fair, I do normally whip along above 90 (but shhhhhhhh).

Can relate to that, I used to 'make progress' at the very extent of the term pre accident. But since owning the Striple I've been less inclined to nail it everywhere (good thing too the way the cops are now days), but in the confines of a nice wind broken country lane it's no trouble to wind it on without feeling the wind.

Street fighters: for people who dont want to go faster than 90 down a motorway
Sports bikes: for people who NEED to go faster that 90 down a motorway

Tourers: for people who want to cruise and any speed they choose and can still walk when they arrive at their destination. :)
