Is anyone around the Ashford area doing the whole mayday thing? I'm not 100% sure what it's all about but it sounds like a good time. Wondering if I could tag along with a group or anyone else who also fancies it?

I've only been riding a couple months but I consider myself a competent rider :D

not from Ashford and still unsure if I will go to Hastings, if I do I would aim to get there early and beat the rush.

I was thinking of popping into Hastings at 9am, having pancakes at the Pelican, watch the bikes come in and then pootle out to find some country roads that the unmarked and hordes won't be on.
Mr Green, if you come to Hastings just be aware that the roads between Ashford, Rye and Hastings will be heavily policed. As for Mayday, its madness and mayhem but if you've never done it before then I reckon it could be worth a visit. I am not sure if any others are meeting up somewhere near you but will keep an ear out Parking the bikes can be a challenge although pretty much anything goes. I would avoid coming in from the Rye road at 10am as the Jack in the Green procession starts then.

All sounds like a lot to take in. I'll need to do some more research into what it's all about then. Just trying to meet some people so I can see some of the good roads, see some of the stops and generally meet some new people. If mayday is that much chaos maybe it wouldn't be the best time to do all the above. Not sure what to do for best now haha

We usually have at least one ride out going on every weekend so that may be a better chance to meet people and get to know some routes. There is also another May Day thread on the forum that may be coming past you :)

I`ll be out & about somewhere on Monday but certainly won`t be going into Hastings. Nearest I`ll get will be Battle Abbey to meet anyone coming out from the Mayday Run.

Battle could be a good spot to meet up after Hastings and then decide a magical mystery route from there lol

I don't know my way around that area at all, I'm sure I could figure it out though. So is there a plan then? I know I'm the one that made the suggestion but it sounds like people who are more in the know seem to already be planning stuff :D

It's 20 E Parade, Hastings, East Sussex TN34 3AL. On the way to the old town and the fishing huts, opposite the little boating lake and amusements. Looks like this from the outside:

Well if you can find the Pelican you would be more than welcome to join us.
Also thinking of making a second meet time and place for those not coming into Hastings so alternatively you could join us there. Will post up details once I have some ideas!

We should get to the Pelican between 9-9.30. I'll be wearing a red hoodie with the SECB logo on the front.

If we lose each other during the morning or others want to do a ride but not into Hastings then the plan is to reconvene in front of Battle Abbey at around 12-12.30ish
