Having had a great weekend in Maastricht. Concert was amazing & found a shop selling one of my favourite cigars as a sensible price, so have restocked my humidor. Had a nice touch on the ferry back too. Treated myself & Sue to a large JD each & got 2 x £5 off duty free Gentleman Jack whiskey... so I bought 2! Well, it would be rude not to ;)

excited for ya neil i reckon youll love it.
And now for the pan weekly update.....right hand heel plate removed and brightened up, once again i wasnt going for the mirror finish so its bright but dont be expecting to comb ya hair in it. Hazard upgrade decided to go all weird on me and so looked into things a little further ( got a manual now) and decided to reroute the power source to the flasher relay input..problem solved and now i dont have to switch an indicator on with the hazard switch ...just hit the hazard switch and all 4 indicators flash away.
Obtained a free of charge std Pan screen which most would have been a throw away but a little perseverance with some plastic cutting compound and polish and its as near as damn it perfect again and a better height for little ol me ...the big touring screen just caused to much distortion for my liking.oh and its smoked so looks a little less like something out of heartbeat the ol nick berry police bike lol.

I was going to say how awful that screen looked, so I'm so glad you replaced it.
Very good with the "Heartbeat" quip.

    I don't doubt it's functional, but it's fugly.

Screen design always intrigues me. The little round headlight screen on my Raptor stops more windblast than the standard screen on my ZZR.
Fitting a Chinese DB screen to the ZZR, with only an inch or two more height, stops nearly all the windblast!

I know there are a multitude of factors apart from the screen (road speed, wind speed, height, body shape etc etc) which all combine to produce drag, but sometimes what appears to be a "brick" goes through the air silky smooth.

Those airodyn.... aerodin.... earodyn.... wind tunnel experts really earn their keep!

Pan update time......full strip down of the Tupperware yesterday to investigate an intermittent coolant leak ....damn these things are crammed together and .....HOW MANY FAIRING FIXINGS CAN A BIKE HAVE????? answer ...enough to rebolt tower bridge back together. ...anyways after stripping and starting and waiting I eventually found the return hose on the thermostat was the culprit ...it wasn't fully on and the jubilee wasn't tight ....job done. the sides of the radiator were devoid of any protection and were furry enough to be mistaken for john mcririck ...so wire brushed off , prepped and given several liberal coats of high temp enamel paint , this was extended to the exhaust shield which although didn't look bad I went on the old adage of prevention being better than cure ..then onto the hidden parts of the frame welds and such like and various brackets were surface rust has begun to appear ...quick clean and prep then a lick of enamel paint ...all good.
opened the clutch slave cylinder and found john mcriricks shaving foam dried up in there so that got a good clean and the push rod got a smear of red rubber grease for good measure. ( another little job done) . then the rear brake ............what a pain in the arse...having had loads of travel and virtually no brake I decided to begin with a damn good refill of fluid....thanks to Hondas positioning of the reservoir in conjunction with the caliper and the caliper in conjunction wih the pedal I managed to ut air in the system ( as if it didn't have enough) so with the help of swmbo i managed to re bleed the system and get a bit of pressure back ...still not happy with it so going to be looking at purchasing a pneumatic bleeder, then I ran the bike to temp and had a little fettle with the carbs balancing them out....easy peasy...finally after much cursing and refitting of the tuperware time had run out so front brake caliper clean to be done still.

right ....had the rear brake caliper off this morning and was looking at the parts...took a look at the shims Honda fitted at factory and noticed they have a layered type of material attached to them...started to wonder if this was causing a cushion effect so took them out re assembled and tried the pedal ...blimey ..it seems i was right i now have a much better brake pedal. The front calipers were also removed and found one piston either side was solid and wasnt returning properly...pads out push the pistons out as far as i dare and clean the pistons with brake fluid and cotton bud..then apply a good smear of red rubber grease and work the pistons in and oout until i was able to push the pistons back with just my thumbs...re assemble and i now have a prgressive brake lever rather than an all or nothing one.
Going to order new slide pin bolts for the rear caliper as they seem to have excessive wear.
so for now it seems any upgrades will be fund limited ( new saddle cover etc) and a proper caliper rebuild with new psiton seals is on the cards once the weather returns to wet and shitty....( thatll be next week then lol)
