You`re Very welcome Richard. We like to make sure our members are comfortable should they be unfortunate enough to need a bit of R&R after an incident. Was good to meet your lovely wife as well.

Finally....the ZZR is done....talk about a mission though.....bike taken to HM racing for a full shake down on the dyno ...result?...full strip down and rebuild of incorrectly rebuilt carbs by person/s who carried out sonic cleaning ( words will be had ) ...re dynoed and found to be over fuelling ...diagnosed as worn idle valves and seats, carbs set up as best could be at that time and new valves and seats ordered...new valves and seats arrived and fitted ...bike wont start...strip carbs off... again float chamber full of fuel... check float levels.....way out...reset float levels with micrometer, re assemble and re fit to bike ....bike still wont start.....ffs ...strip them off again ...chamber full of fuel ...check new valves for action and find they stick slightly due to new clips...change them for old clips and check with airline for movement ..all ok....reassemble and fit back to bike....still wont start....go to bed due to frustration...get up and start again with clear head ...check fuel pump ....hmm im sure that should pump more than that.....check voltages to said pump...ahhhhh....4.8v ....run temp supply direct from battery and brrrrrrrrrrrrrr pump working...ok work backwards ....short out fuel pump relay ....nothing...hmmm ...check diagrams and the feed is shared via ht coil supply and then from ignition circuit from battery....ok check the coil supply to the relay ...all good....check relay operation ...nah thats toast....ok time for a little modification ...1 solid state relay ....cut off plugs and apply required crimps to coil circuit attach to s/s relay coil...check operation ..all good ....take new supply from battery to s/s relay switching circuit and check again ....good....wire new supply direct from s/s relay swithcing circuit to fuel pump and check again ....brrrrrr eureka!!!!... fix s/s relay down with its base fixings and re assemble bike, turn on ignition and brrrr i can hear the pump run until the carbs are primed at which point it stops......touch the starter and she fires into life....im am just about done with damn carbs.

I feel your frustration. But that's what attending to venerable machinery always seems to involve. None of the offending items were service items, were they?

alas no ....idle valves and relays usually go on for bloody miles if not the life of the bike and the idle valves really only go bad if the bike is left sitting which in this case it had sat for 6 months before i got my hands on it....its been an adventure and now i can finally get to enjoy the bike.

using the zzr to attend a meeting in shaftebury ave yesterday and then getting to use it again to attend a mercy mission for a friend in need in Camber ....a good shake down for the bike and a good opportunity for me to get aquainted.....a few little niggles ....throttle cables need adjusting, tick over is a little off, rear lights have a loose connection somewhere, Headlight is virtually useless ( especially full beam ) other than that you tiwst the throttle and then ask yourself...."wheres yesterday just gone"

You reckon the headlamp problem is a design fault with the reflector or you think something like an aftermarket bulb can sort it?

not sure at this time but i already have a couple of upgrade lamps on order and ill assess the problem then, its not a big rush thing as i rarely ride at night anyway. The nightcrawlers run to brighton is done solo so i use the the Aprilia and that has a fantastic headlight so not overly concerned but its always nice to know your machine is capable of getting you through all situations.
But as a thought it could be that someone has adjusted a poor dipped beam making the high beam way out and useless ...it didnt light up the road but then again it didnt light up the sky either ..it sort of brightened up the bit in the middle if that makes sense.
