Up until now I`ve been using a cheap pair of "ear bud" style headphones that came with one of my phones as ear protection. The 2 main reasons for this is that I find the standard yellow roll n push style foam plugs give me a sort of floaty feeling & they seem to block out too much sound making me feel detached from the outside world.

The downside of using earphones is that it can take a few goes at getting them seated right & then, once fitted, have a tendency to catch the bit where the cable comes out when putting my helmet on.

What style of plugs do you guys wear & what influenced your decision to get them?

I get mine from halfords usually a bag of 25 pairs , they work for me!

They are yellow and foam so may not be to your liking!

Only ones I found that work for me are these:

(thanks to JimG) The blue bit in middle means I can get them to sit properly in my ears and not fall out all the time. I always had nightmares with regular foam ones.
But the ones I like the best are a pair we picked up at Goodwood which are called Ear Peace http://www.allearplugs.com/earplug-suppliers/ear-peace-ear-plugs/?gclid=CL3fzPuh5LgCFXHMtAodr18ABg.
They are awesome! They filter the air and sound but don't render you deaf and are really comfy plus stay in :). Not cheap but I reckon totally worth it.

Those ear peace ones look like a good bet & are re-useable to boot. Also spotted the Alpine Motosafe plugs on that site too which have interchangeable inserts so you can adjust the noise damping to your liking.

Jesus on a tiny bike! No wonder they don't fall out. :hah:

Seriously though, I never noticed your ears were that big... Must have been the wiggling distracting me.

Yeah the Ear Peace ones come with two different inserts. They are re-usable although I did lose one set on the Tewkesbury trip which kind of defeated that lol

Well I like that floaty/detached feeling the cheap yellows give:hgiggle: & a loud zorst lets me hear the engine.

I have the Alpine ones for a year and a half and find they are good. You can hear everything around you but def cuts wind noise. I also listen to music and that's fine too.

There's a little technique to make sure they are seated properly otherwise they don't work and feel like they don't block anything.

I wear the purple 'Macks safe sound,' they are pretty small, (got dinky luggs). Have used them for a couple of years. Available on fleabay, bout £6 for 10 pairs, they last for about 4 washes. Love em! You can wear them all day, but they do block out out a lotta sound, goody.

I didn`t realise they had different inserts as the website doesn`t mention that.

You`re thinking of "Mothers Little Helpers" not earplugs Les ;)

Not too fussed about listening to music but def want to cut down on the wind noise from the chin guard of my flip front. I didn`t really notice it until I tried the new bike. Seems the loud pipes on the star were blocking it out already.

Tony bought some that moulded into his ear shape from somewhere, (Ebay I think), and thus they are perfect fit everytime

Yeah seen a few of those mould your own at home kits available & thought they may be worth a punt if I can`t find some premade ones that I`m happy with.

Good philosophy when you're younger, then again at my age you will have to put up with tinnitus. Not clever or good fun.

My tinnitus was caused by a combination of shooting, motorcycling but more recently, fooling with drums. Just wish I'd used plugs earlier.

yup im only 32and suffer from it.. downside to not wearing ear plugs when I used to gig, and went to concerts... rideing the bike has just made it worse so def recommend ear plugs.. in fact I use my musician ones on the bike as they filter out all the loud bits but still leave me with a reasonable amount of hearing, downside is they are just under 20 quid a pair so have to be real careful not to lose them...
tom had some that looked similar paul, but I think his were slightly cheaper so might be worth asking him what they were..

That's what I like about the ones I use now. They also filter out the loud bits but you can still hear. Much better than the muffled effect of the foam ones
