Never mind. Lammy: save us! Or maybe I should invent one. It's been a while! MegaMan has post a 1066 version which sounds good to me as an alternative

Well, still planning on heading up to Essex and I am sure man with lion won't mind a few visitors. (although have suspicions we may end up assissting with vehicle of the 4 wheeled variety!) Then, if can find it, we could do a quick run of the Burnham Bends. However, will post up confirmation, meeting place and time this evening, if it's a go :)

just a quick one, a few of us are popping up to Essex today to get lost on their cart tracks. hoping getting a cup of tea and marvel at Skortchios OCD at work on his famous ogy. their are two stops on the way up. Battle Abbey at 9.30 and Blue boys at 10.30. The plan is to stick to a few back roads rather than the A21

I must admit, it would be lovely with more of the "take it nice and easy" rideouts, I don't do "seat of the pants" rides any longer, not with this bike.

I would guess there are a few like you. The problem is they don't post so never really get to enjoy rideouts that they would be happy to take part in. We have a really good mix of bikes on here and some wicked banter but it does nearly seam to be the same people that post up and take part in rideouts. I have been trying to work out a way for more people to get involved be they don't normally due to location or precieved speed of riding. With the numbers we have on here we could easily have 3 or 4 groups doing rideouts on any given day, hopefully something to suit everyone :D

Dont know about anyone else, but, my main line of work makes it difficult to commit to rideouts sometimes.

Hopefully new prefixes that Carnage prompted us towards will help a bit in the pace dept.

Last Sunday was a good example if this. Mega, Hondamagna50 & myself took a longer sedate route to the Oasis than some of the others but we all arrived within 10 mins of each other. Having more than 1 group going to the same destination means that the more gentle riders don`t feel they are holding anyone up or playing catch-up & potentially riding beyond their own comfort zone.

If you like, I can add a field in the profile so you can put in your own "riding level", for arguments sake based on the criteria Hoppie posted up the other day, which I can set to show on the users details to the left of each post so everyone can see others level. This will only work however if everyone fills this field in & are honest about the level they set.

For me, daytime rides are pretty much restricted to Sundays due to work & other commitments on Saturdays. There`s nothing to stop ANY member posting up a ride be it an "Organised" ride or just something along the lines of "I`m thinking of <insert idea here> Does anyone want to join me?" There`s also nothing to stop members bringing along friends that aren`t forum members, we don`t charge a guest fee ;)

Before I do this we would need to decide what skills constitutes what level else its a complete waste of time.

At first I was going to ask how should each of us determine our level. Then I realised we need some independent benchmark. Short of having one rider assess each of us (subjective, but it doesn't matter if consistent), I suppose we'll have to use our own subjectivity: I just went on a ride which was as fast as I feel comfortable on the road and would describe as 'spirited' but the more experienced riders in the group might have felt 'relaxed'. Every time I try to think of a measurable benchmark, I realise there will be exceptions - eg. 'Obey 30s and 40s but exceed momentarily higher limits during overtakes'. On a powerful bike that isn't hard, but a smaller bike will need determined peddling to do that consistently. And any fool can wind on the throttle, but can he corner fast but safe? I dream of this..!

Perhaps the definition is best left in the mind of each of us and should be set out as a guiding intention only. Participants can judge for themselves knowing the person setting the ride [so what does a Newbie do?] and each ride should have a couple of sensible old heads - yeah, right...

This is more than a two pint problem!

Thats why I suggested using Hoppies levels as a basis as they do seem to have been reasonably well thought through. Of course pretty much everything is going to be open to individual interpretation but its as good as a place to start as any.

While I agree that the definition is best left in the rider, if I wanted to do a 'spirited' ride or 'advanced' ride, I might be putting myself and others on that ride in jeopary as my level at the moment might not be that!

Just food for thought.... I'm all about coming home in one piece +/- bugs in teeth!

Regarding rider 'level' how about something fun and potentially violence instigating and have a "Rate the rider" thread :D

So: 10mm or more = Greens
    <10mm = Orange
    Chicken Strips? = Red.

Hmmn. This has the advantage of being simple. But I do have a tendency to overcomplicate stuff, and

I expect the over-keen yahoo will concentrate on scrubbing the edges without real road sense or experience or ability actually to go fast on the road in safety, while those who replaced their rear tyre after the last track day will have what may be described as 'Chicken Strip Disparity' or CSD for short. Ie. uniformly used front with a 'Green' rear.

Maybe this means I should stay in Green. But then how shall I advance, save by riding with those who are better than me?
