My KTM refresh

I bought my 04 950ADV in June 2012. 33k miles, decent accessories included, FSH (of sorts) but generally nice condition. On arrival the bike was as described although it was clear that it had seen a few winters. The ride from Newcastle to kent was faultless with the exception of one of the cheap Halfords spotlights shaking loose.
As with when I buy any new bike, my plan was to give it a deep deep clean and a bit of a once over. I did a light trail ride during the following week which produced a flicking oil light ......... Time for a light resto I think!

The engine bars although presentable were painted with rattle cans, the sump guard looked a little tired, black encrusted callipers, dull and grubby yolks and numerous corroded fixings ....... You get the picture!

So .... I tore her down, sent a bunch of stuff off for re-plating, stripped and powder coated another bunch of stuff, ordered a bunch of parts and set to work.

Fitted a CJ designs Water Pump kit inc bearings, Head race bearings, full fluids and filters, valve clearances checked, carbs balanced.

Cleaned the absolute life out of everything, fitted new heated grips, ran a new accessory loom up from the battery to be switched from the ignition via a relay box for the grips, sat nav, autocom, spots etc .......

Bolted her up and here she is!!

    Enjoy! (warning - Picture heavy)

    Before ....

I have since then fitted a super blingy KTM power parts chain + sprockets courtesy of a generous £100 discount offer from KTM :cash:

And a bit of protective vinyl up the sides of the tanks so my MX boots don't rub the paint off!

And apart from my new spot lights (in another thread) that's how she is right now!

:Dyou clean them i'l ride them:D

not sure new bikes even leave the showroom as clean as this  Althou you need to stop using tap water as it leaves marks on the mirrors once dry, instead try water from victoria falls, although this must be taken from half way down and only on the 29th of feb every leap year to work :giggle:

I can see why you are mates with Finchy. Are you sure this is an off road bike and not a show bike?

Oooooh it must be something with us KTM owners - my bike's just started it's winter fettling (as you know). I thought that your sump guard was orange though?? Still, your Adv is a beauty! :)

Here are a couple of pics before I take the panels / tank off (already removed the sump guard, battery box cover, wheels and various bits).
I still can't dismantle the wheels ( so they can be fitted with stainless spokes... mmmmm) as the frikkin tool hasn't been delivered! Also, a few plastic panels are ready to go into the dishwasher

A few bits that are ready to go to the powder coaters (just the hubs go into the pile)

Nope not yet. I'll try and do it on Thurs. I know what I want to achieve, but it's a case of finding the time to do it!

Right now, I dunno yet. I've got a busy coupla days ahead, so I'll let you know later in the week. TBH Friday would suit me better... if I can squeeze the time.
