Found a "new" car on Monday and agreed that it would have a full service, new cam belts and new MOT before I collected it it. Phone call this morning...... Apprentice had changed cambelts, turned engine over and bent valves!! oh well back to square 2.

Left work, got in car and turned key. Next thing I know smoke is pouring out of engine . Jump out, wait till it clears then pop bonnet and can't see anything. Get back in, try to drive away but power steering has gone completely. Had to leave car where it was till can sort it tomorrow :(. Friend picked me up so we could do some shopping and I could get my fitness instructor's certificate from the college. Got home to discover I had left certificate somewhere in town, hopefully at cafe !
    Hopefully tomorrow will go better!

Sorry to hear that, Leila. Especially seeing that you are a Moderator Goddess Person. [ps you weren't going to eat your pudding tomorrow, really, were you?]

I do have a real entry for this thread though. At the beginning of November, Prudential wrote to ask me if I am really living at the address to which they sent the enquiry. I wrote back to say I am. They then asked me to furnish them with my previous address as they wished positively to identify me.

As always, I am guilty of thinking about these things too much. Why would they want to know? Perhaps I have a Prudential insurance policy from years back and just haven't updated them with where I am... I searched my records. No Prudential policies, investments or contact of any kind. Therefore I do not know which of my two dozen 'previous addresses' they might be looking for. I spent an hour looking them all up and listed two pages in six countries with approximate dates and sent it off.

Mild victory ensued: part way through November, they replied with details of some insurance-linked investment I'd taken out with M&G many years ago and what would I like to do with it? Er, cash it in!!!:rubhands::disco::cash:

    Easier said than done, however.

First I have to apply for a Withdrawal Form. No they can't send it just because of a phone call. It's Controlled Stationery. Ok, ok... I wrote another letter requesting the correct form. It took 10 days to reach me. I telephoned to ask how I mark it so the proceeds would be paid electronically? No, Sir - it has to be by cheque. Wearily, I completed, signed and returned it the same day (4th December). Time passed...

This morning (the 14th), I rescued a Prudential envelope from my dog's jaws as it came through the post box. Inside was a polite letter asking me to furnish them with two forms of I.D. Not the anticipated cheque! :fume: I telephoned them again. No, apparently I cannot deliver the ID personally, because they do not have a reception area for customers. I could pretend to be the postman? No Sir. We cannot accept mail unless it arrives through the proper channels. And how long will it take for the material to be checked and a payment instrument to be issued? Seven to ten working days. :cry2::cry2::fume::fume:

Why couldn't the request for ID have been included on or with the Withdrawal Form? That's a different department, Sir.

You know how there are some days when you begin to think you really shouldn't have got out of bed? Even when I assembled all the identifying material and drove to the local Post Office to ask for these papers to be sent Recorded Express Super-Fast Speedy delivery, the machine at the Post Office counter had broken. So I drove to another Post Office to pay £1.20 in parking and wait for 20 minutes before being relieved of another £7 in postal charges. Now I shall set my alarm clock for the 28th of December..!:sleep::sleep::sleep::sleep::sleep:

you do know thats 7 to 10 working days as stated by the pru, who close on the 20th dec and don't reopen till the 8th jan. So assuming your letter gets there tomorrow, the 15th, is opened on the 16th thats 4 days before they close. Then they start their 7 day rush after xmas you should recieve another letter around the 15th of jan asking you to send in your DNA sample. Good luck :giggle:

Was in Danbury in August. Newtown is 15 miles from my dad's place in New Milford. Why would anyone shoot little kids???

so far they have said it was a 20yr old , and the reason he got into the school is that he was a parent of one of the kids .... the mind boggles at why though

Another phase in car saga! On Friday the AA, after having come out to the car and then refused to tow it, told me that my brother or mum would have to be the ones to make the phone call to have the car towed home. However, when my brother phoned them this morning they have now informed him that because I made the call and I was driving the car, they will NOT come on a call out (even though it's my mum's car). I am amazed that in this economic climate, when they have 2 out of the three family members on the policy and were about to have a third added that they could be such f****ng jobsworths and t&$ts!! :bhead:
, not a good way to start Monday morning!
And to top it off, my dishwasher is leaking :(
