My left wrist and grip is not very strong after the accident and I have a non functioning left index finger, which makes pulling the clutch lever in near impossible. These last few weeks are the first time I've been back on a bike since the accident.

The clutch lever was positioned to far away for me to reach. Changed the dial to the closest settings and still to awkward/far away. Hubby and dad-in-law ended up grinding some off the end of the lever (the pivot point) so it's closer to the handle. I also find it tough to pull in the level - sort of like stiff.

But within a 10 minute ride my first knuckles are killing and by the end of a short ride my non-injured knuckles are swollen and black.

Other than grinding more off the pivot point, which I'm not inclined to do, or finding some way of increasing my grip strength in my dodgy hand, any other suggestions?

Is there a way to make it 'less stiff'?? Is there something similar to WD40 that'll work?

    HELP!!

I've swapped mine for stubby levers recently! Love them. Their profile means that they are already nearer to the bar and I have stopped getting cramp in left hand now. Or are yours already stubbies?

You could go for a hydraulic clutch conversion?

I'd have thought stubbies would adversely affect the leverage unless the fulcrum point is altered, even if they do allow you the reach. Other than the previous suggestions you could try an enduro type lever which has the fulcrum closer to the lever tip. Had the same prob once with a heavy hydraulic clutch action so just got a larger bore clutch slave cyl.

Stubby Levers in theory would be worse, as they are shorter but you need more strength to pull them back.
If there is an Hydraulic conversion may help, but I would certainly try one out first.
Quick shifter, I think there are ones that allow up and down shifts, so that will help with amount of times you need to pull Clutch in. When you stop use Neutral more, and only select gear when pulling away.

Sure way to solve it though,,,,, AUTO bike. :hah:

    Don't bother with hydraulic conversions.

As Les says, you need to adjust the fulcrum for easier pull level length isn't a large enough variation given the available space.

Go to your local motorcross / stuntfarm shop and buy an Easypull lever.
It's a variable fulcrum 1 finger clutch lever. Mine cost me about £15 and can be adjusted down to under 4lb of pull as well as change the span wherever I like.
