I have an alarm and immobiliser fitted to the Midnight Star , but the insurance "b'stards" are insisting on a lock and chain as well!!!. Can anybody recommend a Thatcham Approved one.???

I hear Almax Locks/Chains are very good.

Thats what I would go for if I was required to have one.

I've got an English Chain Company chain with an Abloy 350 padlock (both Thatcham approved). Ridiculously heavy, so a real PITA if you need to carry them on the bike though. If I remember correctly, the pair cost about £120.

So are we to gather that you are not really interested in security and more a case of just satisfying the insurers ?

Some Vids..maybe selfserving to Almax....but quite interesting...if you are interested in security...

Yes mate. I wanna be able to carry the chain without beating the bike to death, at minimal cost. It has to be Thatcham 3 or Sold Secure standard. Or a disc lock so that I can wreck my discs???

I think if you are just satisfying the insurers and you don't want to weigh your bike down, disc locks are the way to go as they also weigh like about 600g, opposed to chain and padlock which is going to 3+kg if not more ?
I use Xena XX14, i think you can get away with about £60 delivered. the XX14 isn't advertised as Sold Secure Gold, but it is listed on the Sold Secure Website....and vice versa it seems with many products...like Xena advertise the XX15 as Sold Secure Gold, but you can't find it on the Sold Secure website...
Also if you get a Disc Lock, get a massive NEON sign and stick it on your dash saying REMOVE DISC LOCK.

Dunno why we bother with Thatcham approved anything. When I upgraded the alarm on the daytona my insurers basically said " Yeah, and! " they didn't give a stuff that the alarm I told them was fitted, which wasn't actually there, and was not on the list had been replaced with one that was on the list. 'Tis all a pile of big fat hairy bouncy ones. The only reason I have a chain in Bromley is for my peace of mind, and I leave it locked to the railings of the CAB car park, never carry one and don't like the damage a disc lock can do if you happen to have a blonde moment.
