    Guys,

I'm due for a service so this will probably solve the issue but I just wanted to know what the problem most likely is before I put her in.

The Bike seems to have an erratic idol and when travelling, if holding at a constant rpm (ie 4-5000) the bike lurches forward and slows down, lurches forwards and slows down..you get the picture.

By the time I got into work it seemed to have all but disappeared and was running nearly normally although it still was not quite right.

Could it be the spark plugs need cleaning or something?

    Cheers
    Neil

Could be mate, or a fuelling problem. Plugs shouldn't be a problem at low mileages, but always worth checking and cleaning. Check your Lambda sensor is secure?

Think I might struggle with the Lambda sensor (WTF's that ) but i'll see if I can clean the plugs...Be good to have a go before the service as the service man can then fix the problem that I'm potentially going to create due to me being inept.

Google it ? If your bike is fuel injected, it will have one. Sometimes there are problems with the connections to them. It's screwed into the linkpipe normally!

Also check for any air leaks on the inlet side ,this would give you the surging and rough idle.

If it's the Lambdas, isolate them altogether either by a remap or by using o2 eliminator plugs. Who needs leftie-liberal-envirolesbian emissions crap anyway?

When paired with your current picture, is this response a new height of Irony? :giggle:

It's a curse you know. My beauty obscures my wisdom.

We really should change the subject back to Napa's problems. Sorry for nicking the thread

Only that it's still running rough...Not had a chance to sort yet as been working. Going to have a check of the plugs and then book for a service.

I normally book in to a main dealer but as the bike is nearly 2 years old now and nearly out of warranty (July) anyway I might as well look for a good independent.

Any recommendations in the SE London/North Kent area?

I ride a 2010 Yamaha FZ1-n and it has not been laid up for more than 2 weeks at a time and generally gets used 3-4 times a week...

I had an erratic idol when I was a teenager, then I got married.

Go to be something daft I should imagine, known some bikes to be arsey after a lay up because of gumming up in carbs or injectors hence why I asked, just in case.....
Daft question, but is the air filter clean? is it a shade rich at the end of the silencer? My Bandit was that way inclined before new plugs sorted it out and it ran better and smoother at low revs too.....
Hope you get it sorted and it isnt anything drastic.....

Hmm...I have changed oil and oil filter but never changed the air filter....That might be worth a look too...Nice one!

Just started her up and let her warm up. Then I applied about 8-9000 revs and there is a slight popping from the exhaust as though it's misfiring....On a rideout tonight so will have a look properly after that in case the bike gets off the road for a few days.... :(

    Any luck as yet??
Did you try the air filter? it'll run richer with a :poop: filter......
Still have baffles or not? lean mixture produces some pops and bangs I believe.......
    Aftermarket can?
Got any air leaks in the exhaust system? Between the can and the OE pipes.....:think2:

    Hope this helps.....
