School hill is another of those roads thats been hit by "traffic calming" where you have to slalom through 3 islands which effectively make it single track. The main problem is that people see the sign at the first one that gives them right of way over oncoming traffic but ignore the fact that at the second one, the traffic coming the other way then has priority.

Why do we do this though, share these tragic stories? It just makes us feel shit and nervous about riding, well it does me anyway. It really throws my riding when I read these stories especially when its someone I know or know of. Right, off to find a story about a group of bikers that saved the world......

I think we do it so we are aware of our own mortality & don`t think we are super human.

But can you imagine if this was a Cancer sufferer forum, would we post up an article that says "ooh, there goes another one". Sorry, Im being flippant but I just find it so negative and depressing, it was on my hate list as when you meet someone and they tell you about all the people that have died biking. Joyous. Trust me, I have enough conversations in my head when Im riding about how I could die at any moment, I have no delusions that Im made of rubber.

I agree with T on this one and not just because she's prettier than RW.
If you don't celebtrate someone while they live, don't mourn them when they die. I've lost friends over the years from biking and other endeavours including 2 best friends and on those occasions I made it known they were gone as they were known by the forum I ran, but there's little point announcing every 'unknown soldier'. All it does it remind people of the negatives of being a biker.

Why not focus on the small bike section and the new members area and work on making our numbers greater instead of worrying that some days they get smaller.

I've had a good look at where the road ends, It's not as fun as what's under your tyres right now, so concentrate on that!

I like this attitude, S. Though, more the first part, rather than the last.

It's tragic when anyone dies, in my opinion. And, more recently than ever before, I have come to learn that too few people actually give a shit about other people - even strangers. I'll sound like a total hippy (hey maybe that's what I am?), but it's far more beneficial to yourself and to others to put something positive out there in the world, even if no one else does. Celebrate friends and bikers, and biker friends while they're around, not when it's too late.

Oh! That looks right up my street actually!

I think I need something to restore my eroded faith in humanity - I don't want to feel this way, so I won't. ;)

    Sorry for going off topic.

its always a sad time to hear of a biker down, our thoughts should go out to them and there familys, but also to learn by the mistakes others make !

    R.I.P, ride free !! x

Well who knows? Maybe on some forums they do mention about these things, especially if its a member of said forum but I see it as no different to soldiers mourning the loss of comrades in theatre, even if its someone they have never met. They still mourn because they are of the same stock, fellow soldiers in the same way we are from the same stock, fellow bikers.

You may not but unfortunately there are people out there who do think they are invincible. Thankfully no one on this forum (that I`m aware of) falls into this category.

I`m sure it helps Dave ;)

Already on it my friend, hence my suggestion that Emma & I organise 1 for her mates that are on "L`s" & smaller bikes/scooters.

Yeah I know, Pretty ugly ;)

Dont see a problem with mentioning fallen riders, unfortunatly people really do think it wont happen to them , cant see it being a problem bringing some down to the cold hard facts.
Im sure its not all doom and gloom, close family and relatives are probably looking at all the good times and acheivements of the individuals who are taken early.
Sorry if im talking rubbish , wines going down to well!
If hearing news like this gets in your head and upsets your riding then maybe you arnt as confident as you think

i agree with u, i lost my sister and brothering law back in 2000 in a biking accident in seven mile lane in sevenoaks, some rsole wiped them out, but life dose go on, both my brother and myself both ride bikes again despite that accident, my brother now rides a zx9r, and me a 600 bandit, i found it hard to tell me mum i was getting a bike again, i dont think she was totally happy about it, but u cant live in the past, and i think my sister would be proud of me and my brother to start biking again, my brother and i have only been riding for the last four years, and i love it, edited (1110 x 773) redone (555 x 386).jpg be for that the last time i rode was in 1969 a triton, :))

tough one this really, cant comment on the prettiness of either of you as i've not seen you so that wont sway me
i've lost many friends/brothers over the years and i'm sure will lose many more, but you have to celebrate their lives and carry on, its what i would want and i'm sure its what they would want.
if you dont like reading about it then dont open the thread, simple really aint it?
