Hi Peeps, worn out front pads on the CB1000R :(, despite trawling the net and asking on the CB1000R forum, i cant get a name/part number/supplier of the origional pads in order to buy them by passing a mail dealer. Im trying to save a few ££ but dont wish to make a false economy.. Any thoughts or opinions about OEM v after market pads.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-CB1000R-VARIOUS-FRONT-EBC-HH-BRAKE-PADS-/220775252655?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item33673b02af#ht_3612wt_84

By the way for those that dont know, (i didnt) OEM means Origional Equipment Manufacturer... well i didnt know and felt a bit of a numpty as this is all the CB1000R members were saying :phead:....

As long as you go HH Sintered and not organic you'll be fine. EBC know their stuff and if you're buying from Demon Thieves then the 'discount' price is probably slightly over everyone elses anyway

OEM are sintered too most likely. There use to be a lot of hoorah about sintered wear discs faster etc. But your discs shouldn't be wearing out anytime south of 25k miles anyway so hardly a major concern.

Personally, I'd recommend OEs on a Honda. There's negligable disc wear on my Hornet even though its hit 80k. They may not be as 'sharp' as some aftermarket pads but I prefer the progressive feel, particularly on wet roads. And they last around 20k a set. Have you actually checked the price direct from the dealer - I get a small instructor discount and they're really no more pricey than the premium aftermarket stuff.

As it happens, I've had mixed results with EBCs on my Suzukis, with some sets feeling spot on and others pretty awful - poor quality control, I'd suggest - and relatively short life. I got better results with SBS pads, much more consistent and longer lasting, but lacking sharp initial bite that some people like.

Thanks Spin, Kent MCycles will do me a set for £50 which im now thinking seems quite reasonable, but wanted to get a part number/OE manufacturer details to see if i could get them direct or via fleebay just to same some £.

My Harley tore through some cheap EBC (from ebay) non sintered front pads in less than 3k .... Couldnt believe it...wont be buying them again..

The thing I'd be thinking if I saw OE pads on eBay is "are they counterfeit"? I knew there were fake oil filters and the like but was gobsmacked to find there are fake NGK spark plugs on there!

As I say, don't buy organic discs. If you want you could just glue cardboard onto the old backing plates :p

It's a shame there's so much hokey stuff flying about now, but Demontweeks are a well established (if pricey) company so you shouldn't have a problem buying from there.
My last discs had a little over 1mm left on them after 18.5k but they had a pretty hard life up until that point.

Thanks Dave, never heard of 'Demon Tweeks', but like the name :D (im easily impressed)... so that, your validation plus a saving of £8:00  means ill probably give them a try.... unless i can find a part number for the OEM pads at about the same price.

Haha, yeah they've been going years! Supply some really high end performance stuff, started with cars if memory serves then moved into bikes.
    Check out their website.

Never been a fan of EBC pads, just didn't seem to offer the same bite as the OE stuff, have got some SBS pads in the TB and Bandit which seem to work very well. But personally if I was changing the bmw ones I would go OE and pay the money.

Side note- I've used Demon Tweeks for stuff and they have always been very good, including customer service.

I have tried EBC pads, SBS Street Excel pads, DP pads, but the best ones I have ever used were Bendix MRR ones. Very good initial bite and very little fade.

Going to put some on my GSXR when I get the chance..
